# Logging sets, reps and RPE

## The basics

Each exercise in a workout holds a list of sets. For every set you can record:

* **Weight** — in kg or lb (choose your unit in Settings).
* **Reps** — how many you completed.
* **RPE** (Rating of Perceived Exertion) — how hard the set felt, from 1 to 10. RPE helps you (or your coach) judge whether the weight was right, independent of the number on the bar.

## Tips for accurate tracking

* Log sets as you finish them rather than reconstructing the session afterwards — your rest timer doubles as logging time.
* Use the **previous lifts** panel to decide today's weights: it shows your last performances of the same exercise, and scrolling loads older history.
* Be honest with RPE. A set of 5 at RPE 9 tells a very different story from the same set at RPE 6, and your progress charts get smarter when the data is real.

## One-rep max tracking

Synrgetic estimates and tracks your **one-rep max (1RM)** per exercise from your logged sets, so you can watch strength trends without actually maxing out. See [Exercise progress & charts](/workouts-and-training/exercise-progress.md).
